Check-in For Good is based on the concept that causes are impacted by groups of people who drive awareness. When you check in at a participating location using your mobile device, that business will make a donation to a non-profit organization. It’s a win-win-win social action model where consumers can receive discounts and recognition for their check-in, businesses gain foot traffic and charities gain awareness and funds. The app also has unique options in place with regards to privacy concerns regarding check-ins. In addition, there is no fee for businesses other than their predetermined donation pledge. (Free)

The official app of the Pay It Forward movement, this is an important reminder that it does not take much to make a positive impact on someone else’s day. Each day the app will send you a suggestion of an act of kindness to do that day. You can keep track of your own actions, view social actions being taken around the world and even share your progress with others. After all, kindness really is contagious. ($0.99)

Whether you are already an athlete or are simply starting a New Year’s resolution, this is a terrific incentive to keep on moving. As you exercise, this app will track your distance and donate money to the charity of your choice for every mile you have walked, run, hiked or biked. You will earn $.10 per mile for bicycling and $.25 per mile for walking or running. Just turn on the app, choose a charity, and press start. (Free)
