After taking time off from a successful acting career to be with his children, Redbook magazine called actor Chris O’Donnell the ultimate family man.
As a father of five (and being the youngest of seven children himself), learning about the issue of childhood hunger hit O’Donnell hard. Upon learning the statistics of this somewhat invisible issue, he wanted to do something to help. More than one in five children in the U.S. is at risk of hunger. During the school year, 21.5 million children depend on free or reduced-price school meals to help keep them from going hungry, but during the summer, only 2.3 million children are enrolled in summer meal programs. This means there are many millions of children in this country who are at an increased risk of hunger during the summer months.
Even if their hunger is only temporary, its impact can last a lifetime.
Chris O’Donnell wanted to help. Together with the ConAgra Foods, the PSA below was created to raise awareness of the realities of hunger, particularly during the summer months. Now in its fourth year, the Hunger-Free Summer program has supported the delivery of more than 2.5 million meals and snacks to children struggling with hunger over the summer.
For each view of the video from now through August 31st, ConAgra Foods will donate the monetary equivalent of one meal to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization (up to 3 million meals). Please take a moment to watch the video, and pass it along to friends and family so that more meals can be donated to children in need.
Disclosure: At Found the Marbles, I love working with brands and organizations that give back. Many thanks to The Motherhood and Con Agra Foods for sponsoring this post.
